Masks

General information on these masks

All masks were made from polymer clay including Premo, Kato Clay and Granitex.  I sculpted all originals from ProSculpt first and then made silicone molds.

All of these samples were made for masks swaps.  This is only a small portion of the variations that I made.

Any Pearl-ex type powders or tinted liquid clays were applied prior to curing the masks.

The liquid clays that have powdered pigments in them will settle into the recesses and show the sculpting lines more.  I do not cure these for 24 hours in order to allow the powdered pigments to settle to show definition.

The Genesis paints in the liquid clays do not settle into the crevices as much and you get a more even application if that is what you want.

Golden Polymer Varnish with UVLS was applied after curing to seal in the Pearl-ex powders.  After drying, masks were returned to the oven for ten minutes at 175 degrees.

1.         Black Granitex painted with Micaceous Iron Oxide and dusted with Pearl-ex Powders.  Sealed with Golden Polymer Varnish (GPV) with UVLS satin.

2.         Green Granitex painted with Translucent Liquid Sculpey (TLS) and Thalo Green powdered pigments.

3.         Green Granitex with Aztec Gold Pearl-ex powders rubbed on the high spots before baking so the Green Granitex shows in the crevices.  Sealed with GPV Satin.

4.         Same as #3 except with Brown Granitex instead of Green.

5.         Green Granitex with Super Bronze Pearl-ex Powders rubbed on the high spots before baking.  Sealed with GPV Gloss.  #3, #4 and #5 are made in reverse of what one would normally do with polymer clay.  Usually, we would make in gold or bronze and then rub in an acrylic paint into crevices.  This is much easier!

6.         Red Granitex with Mink Pearl-ex powders applied to the raw clay with a soft brush to get into the crevices well.  Then rubbed in very well.  After curing, sealed with GPV Matte.

7.         Same as # 6, but sealed with GPV Gloss.

8.         Orange Premo with Mink Pearl-ex rubbed in well and sealed with GPV Satin.

9.         Red Kato painted with TLS tinted with Cadmium red powdered pigments.

10.    Blue Granitex painted with TLS and ultramarine blue powdered pigments

11.    Green Kato painted with Kato Liquid Clay tinted with Perfect Pearls Forever Green.

12.    Blue Granitex painted with TLS tinted with Genesis paints.

13.    Green Granitex painted with TLS tinted with Viridian powdered pigments

14.    Red Granitex painted with TLS tinted with violet mineral powdered pigments.

15.    Same as #14

16.    Orange Granitex coated with Aztec Gold powders and sealed with GPV Gloss.

17.    Blue Premo painted with TLS tinted with cobalt blue powdered pigments.

18.    Black Granitex painted with TLS tinted with Prussian blue powdered pigments.

19.    Blue Granitex painted with TLS tinted with Cerulean blue powdered pigments.
